WW.715 MATERIALS FOR SEWER PIPE
- DESCRIPTION
- The Contractor shall furnish and lay, as required, sewer pipe, together with all bends, branches, or other specials as shown on the plans or specified and, necessary to complete the work, including necessary pieces of sewer pipe for purpose of physical tests. Sewers shall be constructed of the pipe materials as specified under the contract items.
- The following specifications shall apply to sewer pipe and joints together with all required bends, branches, fittings, and other specials required for installation and specimens of pipe required for testing. All sanitary sewer pipe shall be highly resistant to acids and alkalis, and shall be completely resistant to acids generated by the hydrogen sulfide corrosion cycle. When tests of pipe materials are required by the City Representative, two (2) copies of the test results shall be submitted to the City Representative immediately following the tests. Certification original and one (1) copy shall be furnished to the City Representative certifying that all materials meet the designated ASTM Specification.
- PIPE MATERIALS
- Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP)
- Reinforced Concrete Pipe furnished under this contract shall be Reinforced Concrete Culvert, Storm Drain and Sewer Pipe conforming to ASTM Designation C-76, Class III, unless otherwise specified.
- Reinforced Concrete Pipe shall not be used for sanitary sewers.
- Reinforced Concrete Pipe shall be used for culverts under all city roadways and private drives that are classified as commercial or industrial.
- Poly Vinyl Chloride Pipe (PVC)
- All PVC pipe furnished under this Contract shall meet the requirements of ASTM Designation 3034 Type PSM (SDR 35) or ASTM Designation 3033 (SDR 35).
- All PVC pipe shall be tested in accordance with the Standard Method of External Loading Properties of Plastic Pipe by Parallel - Plate Loading, ASTM Designation 2412.
- Corrugated Steel Pipe
- Corrugated steel pipe furnished under this specification shall be made from zinc coated (galvanized) iron or steel sheets conforming to ASTM Designation A-444. The pipe shall be uniformly coated inside and outside with a layer of bituminous material with minimum thickness of 0.05 inch.
- Dimensions of corrugations shall conform to ASTM Designation A-444. Rivets, where required, shall conform to ASTM A-31, Grade A and shall be Zinc coated. Bolts and nuts for pipe seams shall conform to ASTM A-449 and A-563, Grade C respectively. Bolts and nuts for connecting bands shall conform to ASTM A-307, Grade A.
- Testing of corrugated steel pipe shall be performed in accordance with MA-444.
- Corrugated steel pipe furnished for sewers shall be smooth-lined Asbestos bonded and shall conform to ASTM A-569.
- Corrugated steel pipe shall be used for storm sewers or culverts only when approved by City Representative.
- Corrugated steel pipe shall not be used for sanitary sewers.
- Ductile Iron Pipe
- All ductile iron pipe furnished shall conform to the requirements of ANSI A21.51 or Federal Specification WWP-421c Type II, Class 50, and shall be Class 2 with push-on joints.
- Pipe wall thickness shall be determined by laying depth and shall be consistent with manufacturer's recommendations.
- Concrete Pipe (Non-reinforced)
- All concrete pipe furnished shall conform to the requirements of INDOT Class 3 non reinforced pipe.
- Pipe wall thickness and concrete strength shall be as per INDOT Specification 907.01.
- Joints shall be sealed using standard construction materials and procedures approved by the department.
- Concrete pipe shall not be used for sanitary sewers.
- Material used for sanitary sewer laterals outside the building foundation must be SDR-35, gasketed sewer pipe.
- SEWER PIPE JOINTS
- Concrete Pipe Joints
- Joints for sewer pipe manufactured of reinforced concrete shall be flexible, water-tight, rubber gaskets (ASTM C-443) and manufactured to fit tongue-and-groove or bell-and-spigot type pipe.
- Plastic Pipe Joints
- Joints for PVC pipe shall be elastomeric gasket joints in accordance with ASTM D-3212. Gaskets used in the push-on joints shall conform to ASTM C-433.
- Ductile Iron Pipe Joints
- Joints for ductile iron pipe as well as all underground pipe and fittings shall be mechanical joints.
