WW.106 SEWER INSTALLATION
- GENERAL
- A current Certificate of Insurance, made out to the City of Plymouth, shall be on file at the City Office prior to the start of construction. This Certificate shall be in the name of the Contractor doing the actual work.
- All OSHA safety requirements shall be followed. Proof of a Confined Space Entry Program and practices, trenching and shoring program and practices, and any other applicable safety requirements shall be followed.
- The Contractor shall be required to provide a video to the City Representative for further reference should a dispute arise. Televising of the area to be disturbed shall be the responsibility of the Contractor before any activity begins. Included with the video tape shall be the time, date, and person televising the area.
- Contact for locations of existing utilities shall be made by the Contractor before any construction begins.
- Contractor is responsible for location of all utilities within construction area in accordance to the 48 hour notification rule.
- Exceeding specified deadlines shall result in a minimum $100.00 assessed damages due to delay.
- QUALITY ASSURANCE
- The Contractor shall supply an adequate number of skilled workers who are thoroughly trained and experienced in the necessary trades needed for proper performance of the sewer work of this Division.
- EXECUTION
- Markers, lights, barricades, etc. needed for the protection of the public and for the protection of the work site shall be the responsibility of the Contractor.
- Sewers shall be laid with uniform slope between manholes with inline laser and target. Over ground rotating lasers are prohibited unless approved by superintendent.
- Tapping
- The person who is physically performing the installation is responsible for making contact with the City of Plymouth Sewer Department.
- All permits must be paid in full prior to construction. Permits required are:
- Sewer tapping fees;
- Street and curb cuts.
- Prior to any construction, contact must be made with the City of Plymouth Sewer Department, so location of existing taps can be made. Contact must be made 48 hours prior to construction.
- Proposed taps to existing sanitary or storm sewers will be reviewed by the City of Plymouth Sanitary Board of Trustees or City Representative. If approved, all tap fees and application form fees shall be paid by the Owner/Contractor before the tap is installed. After the tap has been made, an inspection by the City Representative will be made. If the work is found to be satisfactory, the tap permit will be released.
- An Inserta Tee ¨ type connection shall be installed on all approved taps. This is the only acceptable method when tapping a City main.
- Tapping a manhole structure is prohibited unless written permission is given by the Sewer Superintendent.
- If permission is granted the following guidelines must be followed:
- Tap shall not exceed 24" above the existing invert of the main line.
- Tap shall not be made at the joint of a manhole section.
- In precast manholes, core drilling of the structure is required. A waterproof boot shall be snapped into place, which the lateral will connect to.
- The inside of the manhole shall then be grouted smooth.
- All concrete and debris shall be removed immediately from inside the manhole.
- Street cuts shall be neatly saw-cut.
- Bedding and backfill of excavated trenches shall be in conformance with Section WW.211 of this Division.
- There shall be a minimum of one clean-out required per lateral with additional clean-outs every 100'
- Existing drainage tile shall be reconnected to original condition using rubber coupling with stainless steel bands.
- Pipes shall not be laid when more than one (1) inch of water is present above the stone bedding base. If more than one (1) inch is present, it shall be the contractor's responsibility to dewater the construction area and discharge to an approved area. Service lateral or main lines cannot be used for dewatering the trench.
- The maximum number of Riser Rings on new installations shall not exceed 10".
- Connection of downspouts, sump pumps, and yard drains is strictly prohibited by local, state, and federal regulations and violators will be subject to penalties.
