STANDARD SPECIFICATIONSTABLE OF CONTENTS

S.602 STREET SIGNS

  1. GENERAL
    1. Street Identification Signs, Traffic Signs, and Sign Posts shall be provided and installed according to the City of Plymouth, INDOT Standard Specifications, and MUTCD (Manuel on Universal Traffic Control Devices) standards.
    2. All street signs and sign posts must be approved by the Street Department Superintendent.
    3. Sign and post designs outside of the ordinary designs currently being used within the City shall be approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety after consideration has been given to future maintenance.

  2. PRODUCTS
    1. Street Identification signs shall adhere to the following:
      1. Be .080 extruded aluminum.
      2. Blanks shall be 8" high with green background.
      3. Letters and borders shall be white, high intensity sheeting.
      4. Letters shall be 6" high.
      5. Meet all INDOT Standard Specifications for quality, size, gage, hardware, durability, reflectivity (High Intensity), etc.
    2. Street Identification Sign posts shall:
      1. Be galvanized U-channel.
      2. Weigh a minimum of 2.00 lb/ft.
      3. Have a minimum length of 11 ft.
      4. Meet INDOT material standards.
    3. Traffic signs shall adhere to the following:
      1. Be .080 extruded aluminum.
      2. Sizes shall be according to MUTCD, Table 2B-1, for Conventional Roads, unless special permission is given by the Street Department Superintendent.
      3. Retroreflectivity and illumination, shapes, colors, word messages and symbols shall be according to MUTCD, Part 2. Signs.
      4. Meet all INDOT Standard Specifications for traffic signs.
    4. Traffic Sign posts shall:
      1. Be galvanized U-channel.
      2. Weigh a minimum of 2.00 lb/ft.
      3. Have a minimum length of 11 ft.
      4. Meet INDOT material standards.

  3. SUBMITTALS
    1. The preliminary plans shall show the location of all street signs.
    2. Material submittals must be made with the preliminary plans listing the materials being used and the manufacturer.

  4. INSTALLATION
    1. The location and the mounting height of signs shall be verified with the Street Department Superintendent.
    2. Sign Posts shall be located within the street right-of-way, but no closer than six (6) feet from the edge of the traveled portion of the street.
    3. Signs shall be installed with a minimum ground clearance of six (6) feet to the bottom of the sign.
    4. Sign Posts shall be installed vertically.
